Cusco – Abra Malaga – Santa Maria On the first day we pick you up from your hotel early in the morning (06:00 am) and drive for one hour and half till Ollantaytambo where we stop for breakfast in a tourist restaurant. Sometimes the hotels in Cusco don’t offer early breakfast, that is why we stop here around 30 minutes and then we continue driving till we reach 4330 m.a.s.l. (14206,04 ft.) Which is the highest altitude in our tour. On the way we will see part of the amazing landscape surrounded by snow capped mountains and for sure we will stop in most of the view points for taking pictures. Once we get to the highest point we will see the weather there because it is an important factor before starting with our first activity. If it is raining or cloudy it makes it a bit more difficult for cycling so we drive for 10 more minutes and start at a lower point. We bike for 2 hours on average, most of the way is going down and as soon as we get lower altitude this gets warm. You have to know that you will leave your things in the van, which means that you will cycle with no things which makes this much easier for you and in case you need to get anything from the van, this can stop in the way. Sometimes we have cases when tourists don’t want to do all the biking, no problem because you can decide when to start or finish with. In the way we have a mix of landscapes and cycling makes a unique experience. We finish the biking in Huamanmarka which is a small archaeological site where we have a small explanation and after that we still drive for another 25 more minutes to Santa Maria, the first small village where we have lunch and spend our first night as well. Santa Maria is a basic place located in the high jungle (1200 m.a.s.l) where the people are friendly and we can see part of this environment. After having lunch in a local restaurant we go to our basic hostel and have a small nap before starting with our second activity which is the white river rafting. A local guide will explain to you about this activity (safety information) that takes 2 hours in groups of 6 or 7 people per boat and raft about 1 hour and then get back to the hostel. In the night we are going back for our dinner to the same restaurant about 7:00 pm and then back to the hostel for sleeping.

Early in the morning (7:30am) we start with our breakfast in the same restaurant and then drive from Santa Maria to the starting point of our hike. We hike for 6 hours approximately till Cocalmayo hot spring and you must know, This is the hardest day but a beautiful day as well, because we will walk through the jungle and see there coca plants, coffee, cacao tree and local animals that are living around there. The first part of our hike is going up for like 1 hour but having different stops and explanations in the way and once we get higher in the mountain the view will be much nicer and walking in a nice Inka trail will make it an unforgettable experience. After getting our highest point which is approximately 1700 m.a.s.l we start going down to Quellomayu village where we have our lunch in another local restaurant. After lunch the plan is hiking for 2 more hours till hot springs, but before that we pass through different bridges and the last one and the funniest one called la oroya (cable car) before the hot springs makes scream to many people because you pass the river in a small basket and this is very fast, used by locals most of the time to cross the river. After passing this local bridge we end in the nice hot springs where we have plenty of time to relax our muscles and be ready for the next day. These hot springs are pretty famous in Peru and one of the most beautiful ones surrounded by big mountains. You will feel that you are in a different world. Finally, after having a great time at the hot springs we drive to Santa Teresa village for 10 minutes more and get into our hostel where we will spend our second night. We have time to rest and then we get dinner in a local restaurant.

Aguas Calientes Today we wake up around 7:00 am, then we will enjoy our breakfast . We know this day is not difficult because we only hike for three hours, which means we have extra time for sleeping. We start first with the zip line activity where you will zip in 5 different cables and one suspension bridge, to get here we drive for 10 minutes to the base camp. Before starting with this activity you will receive a safety information from the local guides that will help to you most of the time, so don’t be scared of doing this because if you are not sure to do it alone you have the option to go with the guide, this activity takes 2 hours more less depending in how many people book for the day. By the afternoon we drive from Santa Teresa to Hidroelectrica for almost one hour where we have our lunch and then start with our hike for three hours only following the train trucks until Aguas Calientes town. On this way we have the chance to see Machupicchu from far away, but with a good camera we can see part of the archeological site, depending on which time we start the hike we could find many birds and the local animals. Around 3 or 4 pm is when we expect to arrive in Aguas Calientes where we spend our last night (gringo town). Also, in case you are very exhausted after the hike you have the option to take a train (extra cost- US $33 dollars) and arrive early there and have a bit more for exploring the small town or jumping in the hot springs. Tonight we have our last dinner in a nice restaurant and then go to sleep.

Cusco Finally, on our last day we will see Machu Picchu again so we need to wake up early to see the sunrise but that means to start around 05:00 am because we have to queue for taking the bus which is only 25 minutes. Our plan is to get nice views from Machu Picchu because early in the morning is when we can see how this place gets clear little by little and feels the magic environment that surrounds this place. Once we arrive there we will go to get the classical picture from Machu Picchu and then see the most important temples of this huge archeological site. In the afternoon we go back to the town by bus and have another chance to visit the hot springs or the craft market. At the end of the day, you will take the train back from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where the driver is waiting to bring you back to Cusco and we drop you off at your hotel where the tour ends. This last journey will take 3 hours from Aguas Calientes to Cusco city.
